NOAA NCEI/CIRES Coastal DEM Workshop

Open-Source Workflows for Coastal DEM GenerationΒΆ

Hosted by: NOAA NCEI and CIRES for NOAA’s Coastal Coupling Community of Practice (CC CoP) Bathymetric Data Working Group
When: Thursday, August 13, 2026, 2:00–4:00 p.m. Eastern

Workshop abstractΒΆ

Scientists from NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) and the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) will lead a hands-on introduction to open-source coastal DEM workflows.

Using a hosted JupyterHub environment, participants will inspect and run a reproducible workflow for generating 1/9 arc-second coastal DEMs for Newport, Oregon and Sarasota, Florida. The workshop will demonstrate how tools from the Continuous DEMs project support source-data access, processing, vertical datum harmonization, DEM generation, and independent validation.

This workshop builds on the April 16, 2026 webinar, β€œOpen-Source Workflows for Coastal DEM Generation.”

Workshop goalsΒΆ

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
