Elliot Lim¶
Senior Scientist, CIRES / University of Colorado Boulder, in support of NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
Elliot Lim is a geographer with CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder in support of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. His work focuses on building coastal digital elevation models for hazards mapping, with an emphasis on integrating topographic, bathymetric, and shoreline datasets into reproducible DEM workflows.
Elliot previously served as the lead GIS analyst for the U.S. Extended Continental Shelf project. He has experience in bathymetric mapping, maritime boundaries, geospatial analysis, and coastal DEM development.
For this workshop, Elliot will guide participants through CUDEM workflows for source data discovery, DEM generation, output inspection, and adaptation to new coastal regions.
Michael MacFerrin¶
Research Scientist II, CIRES / University of Colorado Boulder, in support of NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information
Mike MacFerrin is a research scientist with CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder in support of NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. His work focuses on remote sensing, geographic information systems, and data processing.
Mike previously was a glaciologist with fieldwork and remote sensing experience across the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, where he led the NASA-funded FirnCover project and other efforts. Mike’s prior work has covered mapping of supraglacial lakes, melt detection from passive microwave data across the Antarctic ice sheet, and measuring firn compaction in Greenland’s accumulation zone to determining ice sheet mass balance from altimetry. At CIRES / NOAA, Mike has led the development of the Earth Topography (ETOPO 2022) global DEM, and is chief developer of the ICESat-2 Validation of Elevations Reporting Tool (IVERT), as well as an assistant developer on other CUDEM workflow tools.
For this workshop, Mike will be giving overviews of the CUDEM program and the continuous-dems software environment, helping with the CUDEM workflows, and presenting on the IVERT tool for workshop participants.
